Is Coolsculpting Painful?

Coolsculpting is indeed an FDA-cleared procedure that usually involves cryolipolysis, or “freezing” of the fat cells that generally don’t respond to various traditional exercise and different diet habits. It’s also at times used in the treatment of lipomas. Technically, the procedure is indeed noninvasive, which means that there is no surgery involved.

The pain felt from Coolsculpting is usually experienced during the carrying out of the procedure itself. According to the official record, the the pain is felt because of the numbness that is caused by the cooling sensations from the freezing applicator that is used during the procedure. One may also feel slight pinching and pulling sensations as the fat cells are usually frozen and pulled out. Such effects may last between 5 and 10 minutes of the 60-minute treatment time.

After the procedure, one might experience pain and sensations of itching and swelling. The level of pain that is felt can also vary between treatment areas, with the abdomen being the most vulnerable. Here are some of the common side effects of the procedure on an individual: aches, bruising, cramps, diarrhea, firmness, fullness of the throat, itchiness, muscle spasms, nausea etc. Prescription pain medications aren’t provided for this kind of procedure, as it’s nonsurgical. No anesthesia is indeed used, either. However, the doctor may recommend that one might take over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications if he/she have any pain or swelling following the procedure. One should not take any pain relievers before treatment, as this can increase side effects like bruising.

Most of these effects are usually felt at the site of the treatment area. According to Coolsculpting, these are indeed temporary, and generally recede within a few weeks. Pain and discomfort after the procedure may fluctuate again three days later, where side effects may temporarily return. It is indeed a non-invasive treatment and the pain is quite less and a person can get rid of the unwanted fat without having the problems if treated with surgeries. Since fat freezes at a higher temperature than the surrounding tissues of the affected area, the controlled cooling can easily freeze the fat cells without harming any other place. After being crystallized, the cells die and your body naturally eliminates the dead cells. Therefore, the pain in the procedure is quite less as compared to that of various other procedures that an individual might take up for eliminating the excess fat from the body.
